2x LoTR

The Return of the King is a hell of a movie.

And I should know, I've seen it twice today. Yes, that's correct - once at 12:01 AM and then again at 3:00 PM. I wanted to see it at midnight and I wanted to go with some people from work. Plus I wanted to be able to like it right away.

See, when I saw The Two Towers for the first time I left the theater focused on the things they changed from the book and the stuff they didn't do right. (By which I mean, they didn't do it the way I wanted them to. Yes, I'm still troubled by the elves showing up at Helm's Deep.) But when I saw it the second time, I was able to just enjoy the film for what it was. I figured I might have a similar reaction to The Return of the King.

I was wrong.

What a great movie. I loved it the first time. I loved it the second time.

I have been waiting for three years to see the Rohirrim charge into battle on the fields of Pelennor. In particular, I have been waiting for three years to hear Theoden shout

Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter!
spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!

Peter Jackson did not let me down. The scene gave me goosebumps, and - dare I admit it? - tears welled up in my eyes.

This movie kicks ass. Go see it. Now!

Hmmm... I'm not quite sure, but I think Brad liked this movie.

Mauri's busy getting ready for Christmas services so she can't go until after the weekend, and she wants me to see it for the first time with her. DANG! (It's a good thing that I love her.)

So I'm going to make the best of it...

Re-watching LoTR-FoTR(Extended) Saturday night.
Watching LoTR-TT(Extended) Sunday night.
Finally get to see LoTR-RoTK Monday night.

AMEN!! Goosebumps and tears!!

Finally, someone else who understands the policy of experiencing something this important the first time with the one you love. Everyone else thinks I'm crazy when I say, "I'm waiting to see it with Kim."

Travis, getting into Joel's corner just cements your reputation as crazy.

He's crazy too. Believe me, I should know - I've crashed Lego cablecars down stairwells with him.

Not to mention playing "Superfriends" on the elementary school playground.

Now that was some crazy fun!

:-D

Joel -

I wonder what ever became of Scott "I want to be Wonder Woman" [last name withheld]?

Looking back, he had some issues.

Most excellent.. I went and saw it.. in W'ford of all places...

Man, has the Showest gone downhill... They're really letting that place fall apart... It badly needs some repair-work (on the seats at least)...

It was a sad site to see...

Makes me wonder how long it's gonna stay open...
